It’s been more than a decade since fans last heard new music from One Direction and while there are no hopes for getting something in near future, they find comfort in the songs and albums the boys left behind.
This week, the nostalgia was hit hard as the band’s fourth album, Four, marked its 11th anniversary.
Four was the last album released when the group was still a five-member band, before Zayn Malik left in 2015, leaving Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne.
The remaining boys continued as a four-piece and went on to release one more album, Made in the A.M., later in 2015, before announcing an indefinite hiatus to focus on their solo careers.
For the unversed, One Direction released four studio albums with the Dusk Till Dawn hitmaker: Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), and Four (2014).
The 2014 album featured 12 tracks, including Steal My Girl, Ready to Run, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, 18, Girl Almighty, Fool’s Gold, Night Changes, No Control, Fireproof, Spaces, Stockholm Syndrome, and Clouds.
While every track is special for Directioners , Steal My Girl, the lead single, became a major commercial success, reaching the top 20 globally and achieving platinum status in the U.S.
It is widely recognized as a classic One Direction hit. Additionally, Night Changes has arguably had the most lasting impact, surpassing 1 billion views on YouTube and 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Is One Direction going to reunite?
While fans have long wondered if One Direction might reunite, no confirmed news or reports are there for a reunion.
However, the tragic death of Liam in October 2024 at the age of 31 reportedly prompted the remaining members to rekindle their bond.
The late singer was the most vocal about a reunion. However, Louis has since made it clear that in the wake of Liam’s death there are no immediate plans for new music or a tour as One Direction to respect him.
No One Direction? No problem, because the boys are collaborating with each other. Rumours suggest the Lemonade singer may be releasing a new Netflix documentary with Zayn, while the other members continue to pursue their solo careers.
Whether there’s a reunion or not, One Direction’s music holds a special place in fans’ hearts, proving that their legacy is far from over.
