Ed Sheeran sparked wave of excitement among his fans as he talked about his upcoming album Rewind while gearing up for the release of Play.
Sheeran shared details on creating both new albums simultaneously and how they started out very similar but later grew apart due to having different themes.
In an interview on September 12, he shared that Rewind album is near completion.
“I made Play and Rewind at the same time. We finished Play first because it felt like the most exciting one,” he told iHeartRadio Canada. “So, Rewind is I’d say two months off being totally locked and loaded and ready to go. And I guess at some point in the next 18 months, it will come out.”
The Sapphire hitmaker added, “But yeah, they’re very much like twin albums, I guess. One was one lent more into Indian culture and one lent more into nostalgia. So they kind of veered off in different directions.”
Play is the beginning of Sheeran’s upcoming album series. Earlier this year, the Photograph crooner explained the concept on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
“When I was like 18, I had an idea for like 10 albums. It’s Plus, Multiply, Divide, Subtract, Equals, and then Play, Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind and Stop,” he said.
The Azizam singer also spilled the beans on his plans of releasing posthumous record.
“I kind of want to make an album for the whole of my life where you put different songs on and then it’s in your will that it comes out the day you die, and it’s called Eject,” he shared.
Play album includes several hit singles, including Azizam, Sapphire, Old Phone and A Little More.Â
Additionally, Sheeran’s upcoming The Loop Tour, which will be promoting the new album, is set to kick off on January 16, 2026.
